Are you guys sick of hearing from me yet? :)
I noticed during all my looking at cooling problems that my front cover is not
perfectly sealed. When I initially pressure checked the cooling system I
found a small leak in the seal from the front cover to the block on the
passenger side. I pulled the cover and found a defect in the sealing surface
around the water galley. I permatexed the whole surface, pressure tested it,
and it held
In this process I noticed the 4 lower bolts on the cover (down around the
crank) are mostly stripped. I need to helacoil them at some point, but there
is no oil loss at this time. When I do get to it, do these holes go all the
way through into the oil galleys? Will I need to worry about the chips going
into the engine?
The cover is now leaking at this same spot again, and I'm considering either
having the defect fixed or replacing the front cover. Are these front covers
generally available for the Olds engines? What are everyone's opinions on
BARs and other stop leak products?
I don't see this as a top priority unless it gets worse but it is something
that I want to deal with some time.
