>I have a piston question: >What does "hyperutectic" mean? >Regards, Jim B. Jim, It refers to the particular aluminum alloy of which the piston is made. An excess of silicon, the main alloying element, is used. The excess silicon "precipitates" out and adds very desirable wear characteristics to the piston. There is an excellent description of the process on the Silvolite website. try http://www.kb-silvolite.com/ . Also lots of good detailed piston information there.
