Glenn-
Is the cover deeper, or does the water pump have a longer shaft? Take some
good measurements without the pumps.
Any of the Buick front covers can be fitted with longer oil pump gears & a
spacer to improve oil flow, not that I am sure it is necessary. My original
215 with 10:1 compression & a hot cam lasted 270,000 miles before breaking a
rocker shaft, & at tear down, all was still within specs, with the stock oil
pump. I did add the longer gears when putting a Buick cover on my 4.2 Rover,
since it was a bigger motor & the original Rover cover had a larger oil
pump. I fitted a neoprene seal from D & D to eliminate the old rope stuff.
I'd say you have several choices that will work.

Subject: Re: Rover 3.9 Rebuild ?
Thanks for all the responses on my rebuild question.
I do have one follow up question:
1. It was recomended that I retain the original Rover
front timing cover, balancer, pulleys, etc because of
the bigger oil pump and front seal. My current front
cover is the Buick V6 cover, with the neoprene seal.
My concern is that the Rover cover sticks out much
further than my Buick cover and it may hit my radiator
in it's current location. Is there a group consensus
here?
Thanks again,
Glenn
