MG announces buyout of the Italian subsidiary of the Qvale Auto Group,
makers of the current Mangusta (think De Tomaso)... seems though MG will do
little more than restyle the car and glue on the MG badge, as the chassis
and drivetrain are to remain unchanged. MG keenly speculated a possible
return to the USA, using this car to evaluate the brand's image in North
America. Qvale Auto Group is based in San Francisco, and the Mangusta is
currently available for purchase in the USA. The deal also gives MG access
to Qvale's dealer network in the USA.
Some of you may recall Qvale ran some MGBs in the late 60s / 70s in SCCA and
various other motorsport events in the USA, and also was a large dealer
chain of British Leyland vehicles on the West Coast.
More as it comes...
