Paul H.,
Thanks for the info and your website photos - I am just about to the point
of installing the new pads in my V-8. I was not able to locate the
anti-squeal shims, several suppliers said they were NLA. Do they come with
certain brands of pads? I am using Lockheed pads, which were not supplied
with the shims.
Due to the lack of shims, I am taking a different approach to squeal
management. I rebuilt the calipers using OEM Lockheed pistons from the
4-cylinder B, which have the milled recess in the edge of the piston. I
plan to use these in conjunction with self-adhesive anti-squeal pads on the
back of each brake pad.
Larry - as for whether the V-8 pads will fit in MGA calipers, I think the
only recourse is to try them and see. I seem to recall that the MGA pad
backing plate was different from that of the MGB or V-8 pad.
Cheers,
Paul Kile

I find they only go in one way. If the stock MGA pads aren't handed I would
be suspicious that the V8 pads are not good to use. Dunno about 'left' and
'right' pads, more like 'inner' and 'outer'. A pair of pads for the RHS is
identical to a pair for the LHS. I have a set of Unipart (GBP242) which I
have photographed showing the 'handedness' and how the anti-squeal shims are
attached. Two of the pads are stamped with 'FER2449FGG453' and two with
'FER2449FGG462'. The latter two have a white paint mark on the pad material
adjacent o the straight edge of the backing plate. You can see the picture
