Glenn;
You will need to obtain a GM yoke to fit your transmission. I know I bought
the transmission end from my local speed shop. I don't remember whether I
got the other end at the same time/place. You can get this from a bone yard
as well. Check there for a shifter too.
With these parts, I brought the B rear yoke and these GM pieces to a
driveshaft shop. They will need to know the length you want for the
driveshaft. You can tell them flange to flange or yoke to yoke. You should
specify a wall thickness of at least 1/8" and a diam. as large as the B
shaft or better. The GM yoke is designed to slide in and out of the trans
tail in the same manner as the slip section on the B shaft. Some claim that
a good machine shop can makeup a drive shaft without balancing. My
experience is that it's worth having a properly balanced shaft. Typically a
shop that provides shoes and suspension parts for trucks will be able to
prepare the drive shaft. Cost is about $125-$150 not including yokes.

driving with the top down! Is there any other way?

Subject: T5 shifter question
Sorry for the constant barrage of questions over the last few days, but I
guess that is what the list is for. Maybe I'll eventually be able to
contribute something useful as time goes on.
I received my T5 trans from an 86 Camaro yesterday. It looks to be in
pretty
good shape, but I have a few questions.
1. It did not come with any kind of shifter. I know that there are after
market performance shifters available for the T5, but I really don't want to
spend the 200 they cost. Does anyone have a shift assembly for sale?
2. On the tailshaft side of the trans, all I have is a very short splined
shaft sticking out. I know this is going to be a newby question, but isn't
there supposed to be a U Joint yoke attached on this end? Where would I
find
such a part? Please remember, that the only car I have ever worked on is my
MG, so every non-MG is new ground for me.
3. How much and what type of fluid should be put in the trans?
Thanks again for all the help.
Glenn
