As I complete assembly of the new 4.2 L for my BGT, it comes time to install a new pilot bearing. What is the conventional wisdom regarding lubrication? Should this bronze bearing be soaked in motor oil before installation, or is that an outdated practice ? The bearing in question is the GM piece for a Chevy, cut down to fit the Rover crank.
