I am putting the final touches on a new(to me) engine for my MGBGT, to
replace the 215. I would appreciate some advice on 1 or 2 small points.
The engine is carburated, 9.5:1 compression, mild street cam, stock
heads, 5-speed, traditional block hugger headers.
My Buick used Champion RN12YC plugs, many many miles, no problems,
compression from 8.75: 1 up to 10.75:1. The Rover came with RN11YC
plugs. I believe this is 1 step colder than the 12's. What is better, or
is the difference to small to worry about?
What about an PCV valve or substitute? The Rover valve covers come with
a "flame trap" which is nothing more than a can stuffed with steel mesh.
As this engine is not equipped with the original fuel injection or air
pump, I feel I need something more. On the Buick, I used a PCV valve
sized for a 3.8L V-6 in line from 1 valve cover to the carb. I want to
have an adequate crankcase vent without just dumping into the
atmosphere. Should I just run a PCV valve in line from the flame trap to
the carb?
Should I run another vent line from the other valve cover to the air
cleaner?
Future project- anyone have experience using the latest serpentine water
pump/oil pump/front cover assembly on a carburated engine to fit into a
MGB? This means new pulleys for the alternator & A/C compressor, & an
idler pully of some sort.
Thanks-
Jim Stuart
