Mark, I'm not sure of the cost of a V-8 will full ancillaries, but I
believe I was quoted a price of around 1500 British pounds for a rebuilt
long block from Beers of Houghton. Be aware that the UK fuel injection
systems were NOT the same as the Federal systems as used on the TR8, and
they have a rather tall plenum chamber that will not fit under an MGB
bonnet. Costello Engineering (UK) has a modified plenum that fits,
maybe Kurt Schley has some details on this in one of the V-8
Newsletters.
BTW, before I lucked into ownership of my factory GT V-8, I looked at a
truly sleazy conversion on a 1971 GT in the Bay Area (California). It
had a TR8 style fuel injection, but the wiring was real kloodgy. The
steering linkage was bodged to travel OVER the LH exhaust manifold,
using double Heim joints and a big metal bracket screwed to the LH
fenderwell. The car steered like a truck. Space limitations prevent
me from providing the full extent of the seedy details of this car. If
I remember right, the owner wanted $5,000.00 for it.
Current US-British currency exchange: 1 British Pound = $1.61
Cheers,
Paul Kile
