I notice several references to a backup fuel pump in series with the SU
pump in MGs. Not a bad idea but a couple of cautions. First, in the
MG, make sure the backup pump is also a low pressure pump. SU carbs
don't like high pressure.
Second, if you have any other cars such as Spridgets or TRs with a
mechanical pump its not a good idea. If the diaphragm in the mechanical
pump ruptures, the backup pump will merrily pump your crankcase full of
gasoline. I've seen people try to devise ways to isolate the 2 pumps
but I've never seen one I thought was practical.
