I used to have a Morris Minor that did this - try opening the bonnet (OK, OK
hood) when you make shortish stops.

Subject: Summertime Heat
I had a nice 250 mi outing yesterday in the old TD. It was in the upper 90s
all day. The car ran like a champ, that is, as long I didn't stop and turn
off the engine. Everytime I stopped for a coke and a little break from the
sun (for say 15 minutes), the car would run like SH*T, for the first block
or two. This is very irritating, and even a little dangerous when pulling on
to a highway. All is well, if the stop is long enough for the engine to cool
down. Now that I think about it, my MGB does this too, but not nearly as
badly as the TD.
I guess this is vapor lock, or something to do with the carborators
"cooking" without the benefit of the fan running.
