Hi Chuck,
Without getting into an engineering discussion I'll say I never liked where
he attached the chest belts to, and I thought welding the mounts into the
driveshaft cover could also lead to problems.
On my TD, the lap belts were attached to the cross-member under the
floorboards using 1/4" chain. For the chest belt, I attached them to the top
of the wheel arch after I'd welded in a 10 guage steel plate as
reinforcement, (welded inside the wheel arch, not inside the passenger
compartment).
My solution only,
