Chuck,
I looked into the same thing a year or so ago. The fellow at the speed shop
that I went to said the oiled foam in the filter I had on the car was about
as good as a K&N, but then again, he couldn't find a K&N that would fit.

Subject: Air Filters
I have been cleaning up and painting the air filters for my wife's
1955 TF
1500. After cleaning the original wire mesh and re-oiling it, I wondered
it there was a more modern filter that would sit inside the perforated
metal ring that sits between the two metal plates. Does anyone have a K&N
filter number that would fit?
