Hi, You probably know that the correct heater take off was from an adaptor
at the rear of the head.

BTTTDW!

Bob:

Worst place possible. The majority of coolant flow the bottom of the radiator
is through the TD pump and then down the external water passage under the
manifolds to the back of
the block. The rest of the water enters the BLOCK through two small slits
behind the pump impeller, and through the one or two small holes drilled from
the water passage into the blocks water jackets. Thus the back of the head
receives water from the BOTTOM of the radiator which is about the coolest in the
system.

If you will look at a TF's water outlet and thermostat assembly, you will notice
that on the left side there is a plugged hole about 1/2 inch in diameter.
That's where the factory intended the heater take off point to be.
