Water Pump Shaft

I am rebuilding my TD water pump (late TD) and note that the shaft I bought 
awhile back is different than the one I removed.  The groove for the C-ring 
in the old shaft is  1.5 inches from the impeller end of the shaft.  The 
groove on the new shaft is 1.75 inches from the impeller end.  Otherwise the 
two shafts appear identical.  Any ideas would be appreciated.   The old shaft 
is still servicable so I can use it if I have to.....Bill Abbott.
