One more originality note on the bonnet board fasteners... on two
*original* PBs I've disassembled, the 2 bolts per side were slotted round
head, 1/4" course W thread - NOT BSF. Under the heads were 7/8"d chamfered
washers, although I'm shooting from memory on the diameter. These were all
bright nickel plated - I use polished stainless now.
The bolts fastening the bonnet catches were standard BSF hex head machine
screws (bolts in UK).

Lawrie,
You should have six holes in each piece of metal covered wood. The two
fixing holes should be about 5" and 24" from the front. The first hole
(approx 5" from the front) should line up with a hole in the chassis, the
second hole (approx 24" from the front) should line up with a hole in a
right angle bracket bolted to the bulkhead support, this bracket is approx
1" x 1.5" and about 3" long, it is bolted to the bulkhead support with two
bolts. The other four holes (the first pair are about 3.5" and 5" from the
front and the second pair are about 31.5" and 33" from the front) are used
for fixing the lower part of the bonnet catches.
If you require some pictures I will send them to you.
Peter.

Subject: More PA assembly questions
Thanks to various list members, I have now managed to get my body tub
properly attached to the chassis of my PA 2-seater. Also installed are
the
firewall and the radiator, enabling fitting of the bonnet and various
firewall braces. So far, so good. Next in my pile of old parts were two
flat, metal-covered wood pieces which obviously run horizontally from
just
behind the radiator to the front of the base of the body tub. Old holes
indicate that to these pieces were attached the catches for the bonnet
latches.
My problem now is that I cannot determine how to attach these pieces to
the
car. There is a hole at the forward end of each piece which lines up with
a
hole on the top of the chassis just behind the radiator. There are also
holes just forward of the firewall but there is nothing beneath these
holes
(they are outboard of the chassis). Photos I took at GoF seem to indicate
that bolts go down through these holes but what do they attach to? And
are
these two attachment points the only ones that secure these side pieces
to
the car? To cope with the upward pull of the bonnet catches I would have
expected a rather more secure method of attachment.
As always, any pointers, photos, etc. from fellow PA owners will be much
appreciated.
Thanks!
Lawrie Alexander
