Pip, you might be interested in this article that is in the 2003 T Register
Yearbook by Michael Card "MG T Series Cars in the Australian Grand Prix". In
part he sez:
" TA success,
No one today would consider the MG TA to be the basis of a GP racer but the
TA which won the 1939 GP was a potent car. Its driver Allan Tomlinson was
accomplished and he and his Western Australian team had developed the MG into a
very fast machine. It was bored out to 1340 cc and fitted with a Marshall
Roots
blower. To reduce drag, it had been stripped of its wings and all unnecessary
weight, and then fitted with a special pointed tail body. A contemporary
photo shows 19" wheels and a side exhaust, not unlike a late model K3. Race
reports say it had a choce of rear axle ratios, and for the race the 19" wheels
were replace by 16" using 6.50x16 tyres.............to give 130 mph top speed."
No other mention of the 16" wheels nor a picture but there must be
some..........
Cheers
Terry
