Hello Don (and listers)

I have had a batch of springs made for the track rod ends to as near as
possible original specification. They are #2.25 each (which is virtually
non profit making).

When assembling track rod and drag link ball pins to steering arms, they
(the
ball pin base) appear to be drilled for split pins (assume for added
safety).
However, when I crank my castle nuts down tight, Holes for split pins
are
well outside the nut. Makes me think either

1. There should be some type of washer, or...
2. I should use safety wire like aircraft repair rather than a split
pin.

And the answer is... ??

Thanks,

Don B.
