On my PB Airline, I have discovered an oil pipe that has me curious. It
is the middle drain pipe from the head to the crankcase. Near the top
end of this pipe there is a VERY neatly (like factory built) brazed-in
< BSP male fitting with a matching male plugged nipple and nut
obviously to seal off this fitting. The plug is cross-drilled and fitted
with a split-pin. The whole pipe is chromed, but looks very original. I
can find no picture or reference to such a pipe in the 1999 Yearbook
article on oil pipes nor in the workshop manual.
This raises a few questions:
1) Why would the pipe be so equipped?
2) Is there any significance to the chrome plating (like being a
workshop or factory accessory for testing)?
3) If this were on a supply pipe, I could understand that it might
be for a supplemental pressure gauge or supply line to an accessory like
a supercharger, but this is on a return pipe. Any idea on its purpose?
Just another of lifes MMMysteries.

Lew Palmer
