RE: Dynamo drive gear clearance

is it important to shim the dynamo for the
required clearance with the clutch pedal depressed?

Not as long as there is not so little clearance that the gears bind.
Also, make sure that there is not so much clearance as to cause a lot of
backlash and noise.
