It was never my intent to suggest not using a spacer. I only spoke of
replacing bearings and that was in response to a question asked by Don
Bonar, I was trying to explain why he had seen a reference to tapered
bearings in his catalogue. Once again the British writer confuses the
American reader. I apologize.
FWIW I have never used taper bearings in MMM cars and have never recommended
them either. I agree that properly set up rollers will remain that way until
the bearings are worn out.
