OK guys I'll bite! My swept wing J2 #4169 spent most of it's life
in Casa Blanca, was put up on blocks when the original owner lost an arm in
a motor racing accident in another car in '36 . He died in '69 and the car
was sold out of his estate. When I bought it in '94 I became the first
registered owner since '36 and it had just under 60,000 kilos and the speedo
with reduction box on the transmission was still working ! The complete
rolling chassis has never been apart. The engine is green and while it was
overpainted years ago, most of that paint has gone away ( engine not
degreased before painting?) Larry Long's swept wing J2 #3733 has a base
coat of green paint the exact same shade as mine. The shade is a true green,
not light but not dark.
In addition, Dave Jarvis in the UK has the most unmolested MMM car
I've ever seen( PA two seater) . It has original duo tone red paint,
beautiful original red leather, black carpets and a Green engine. Colin
Tieche, the J-type Guru who's father was rebuilding these engines when they
were new says lots of J2's had green engines.
I'm not saying that green is the only correct color but I am convinced that
lots of engines were green and I don't believe it was ever a 2 seat-4 seat
issue. My L2 engine only has traces of red.
Cheers,
Chris Nowlan
