Contact Bill Tantau (Chairman of the North American MMM Register
(bill707@aol.com). He was working on sourcing several sets of PB gears
for various PAs. I think he was in touch with Barry Linger.

Subject: PA Gearbox
Dear All (once again - my finger slipped on the previous message),
Got the P type running 13 days ago - just in time to enjoy the MMM event
at Gaydon on 19th June as well as the Silverstone weekend. The track
parade (albeit curtailed to 15 mins) was most enjoyable - even though
notionally the engine is being "run in".
After 40 years of disuse, the gearbox, despite an oil change, is
decidedly noisy in 2nd. And yes, I know everyone says that's how they
are, but this is NOISY!! Also there's every indication of bearing wear,
because when it's nicely warmed up, there is a very loose noise in the
gears, especially on over-run.
Prompted by Malcolm Green's book on the 4 cylinder cars, I was
considering a gearbox overhaul for later in the year (if 2nd lasts that
long), and at the same time, swapping the ratios for the preferred J/PB
set.
When Malcom's book was written in 1994, Barry Linger was around -
trading as CMG Design and Engineering in Verwood, Dorset - and was
producing replacement ratios.
Is he still in business? My researches have failed to find him. =20
If not, does anyone know whether replacement gears can be obtained
anywhere?
Thanks
Dick Morbey
