Back around '92, '93, Ak Miler was testing a multi fuel engine
in a F-150(lot's of room for fuel tanks) that hr set up to run
on gas, propane and methane.
Methane was a problem. The intake on the 4.6 motor was "plastic"
and methane would backfire and break it. He got an aluminum one
from Ford which allowed him to work on the problem. Replacing
the "waste spark" ignition with an 8 coil setup, stopped the backfire
problem.
He thought the problem was caused by methane's wide range of air-fuel
combustibility. He wanted ford to pay for new cams and a turbo.
