Otto... as an Outsider... ( so to speak...) I'll answer a few of your
questions...

1. Yes you have to be a member of a car club that pulls duty at El Mirage...
( it takes a Bunch of Volunteers ) to run a meet there because the land is
VERY public in it's access and folks wander all over the place... The way
the SCTA insures it has enough volunteers is to mandate work requirements
per club based on number of people in the club... it's a Very fair
system.... many clubs actually will pull your duty if your an out of town
kind of guy .... ( meetings aren't required in many of the clubs )

2. Starting line position is based on merit... you run there a lot you get
fairly high up in points and you can be towards the front of the line.... or
if you have a car that's run over 200mph there in the past you might will
be able to get in the 200mph lane... but only after you've done your rookie
orientation.... It's a fair system that rewards those who actually race
there regularly.

3. When it was first come first serve.... folks would show up 3 days early
to get a place in line.... ( after having spent many days there.... I'm
saying hanging out in line would suck... but only a lot after 2 days )

there is other stuff.... but if you want to participate... ya pay your
dues... run out there and do your thing.... do it a couple of times and
you'll be at the front of the line Hauling ass...
