I think it's about safety. And that's GREAT!   I don't think the board could
go any other way.
With traction control (in theory, at least) we reduce the amount of driver
skill needed.  But there are plenty of other challenges in LSR.
I don't think we're going to hurt our sport even if traction control works
out perfectly.  Sure a few records might fall a little sooner.  But the
upside for a lot of drivers will be knowing they've got one more trick to
help keep from getting sideways, rolling their car up into a ball and
testing their body to see how many g's it can stand.
