Jim, you are closer to this than I am (geographically and otherwise)but as I
recall, we raised $5000 for base services at the lastmeet....... If that is
accurate, that's not enough? Heck, raise theentry fee. EM is $50... I would
gladly pay $100. Also as I recall, theBase Commander was not friendly in any
way towards racing on his base. That guy is gone and I am told (by a civilian
employee) that hisreplacement is a gearhead. Maybe it's time to try again ( I
know,it's real easy for me to sit 400 miles away and mak suggestions, but
Ithink this could work.....) We could figger out a way to cover theirexpenses
if that was their only objection.

The problem is bigger than that, we were unsuccessful in returning to
Muroc for several years preceding 911. As I understand it, the base has to
justify the expenses they incur in letting us use our lakebed. Generally
this is provided by profits from on site vending going to support the
various base service clubs. In the case of the Edwards air show (which was
held for the first time since 911 this past year) this works out quite well
for them. In contrast the service clubs made almost nothing from the
spendthrift racers and spectators that attended the last couple of Muroc
meets. In addition the base gets a lot favorable PR from the air show which
is probably lacking from our activity. No benefit for the base no
justification for the bases expenses.
