It's covered in the rule book under course damage on pg 12, 2006 rule book. 
Any non pneumatic tire/wheel combination et. that has the potential or has 
demonstrated a tendency to damage the race course may be barred from 
competition etc.

No alum wheels are allowed for drive wheels as far as I know. Best check 
with the contest board if you plan to use them. If the salt is soft I doubt 
if they would allow them.
