Yee Ha! I can see thae day coming when racing is all in the computer!
For instance, I pick class xyz to race in. I build a car to the specs
and requirements listed. I have the car inspected by an approved
inspector (or maybe a bus load of them). When they are satisfied that
the car meets requirements, I take it to the wind tunnel, one of the
clubs choice and a common one for everyone. I run the tunnel and get
data like Keith's. Then I take my motor to a club dyno and get the power
it will produce. I use the simple formula for hp = drag x velocity
(ft/sec) / 550, solve for V and get my speed. Then I compare it to the
existing record and if over, NEW RECORD! If not, then I have to get new
data or make corrections somewhere. No safety equipment required, no
driver involvement, no travel to the salt, yada yada...could be fun! ANd
way less expensive!
mayf out in pahrump with my tounge in cheek..
