With my insatiable need for speed, I followed this yesterday but didn't get
all the details until late last night. Pacific Coast Highway and Decker
Canyon is where the big boys now meet to race (Mulholland Drive got too
popular),
yesterday around 6:15 am, a couple of guys who had been arguing about whose car
was fastest, left Beverly Hills and met up on PCH & Decker. The cars: a
Ferrari Enzo (valued at $1,000,000) and a Mercedes SLK McLaren (valued at
$500,000). The driver of the Ferrari lost control, took out a utility pole
and
literally split the Enzo in half, the SLK McLaren driver kept going, basically
avoiding arrest. News stories report that speeds got as high as 120mph but
police investigators say the cars actually reached speeds in excess of 200mph.
The owner of the Ferrari (who was sitting in the passenger seat) claims that
the driver, a friend only known to him as the German, ran off after the crash.
Surprisingly, no one was killed or seriously injured. As bad as this may
sound, I would have loved to have caught this on tape for those nights I'm
sitting home bored.
