Last night my father-in-law, a Chevy nut-hey nobody's perfect, came over and
helped me pull the rods and pistons out of my motor with the engine still in
the car. I've never done it this way before, I've always pulled the motor so
this is saving a ton of time.Anyways this crate motor is only two years old and
my mopar parts guy is telling me that Chrysler is no longer gonna stock
replacement parts for this engine-so I proceeded to rant and rave about how
I've spent a gazillion dollars buying this engine and how could any company be
so stupid as to not have parts ready for racers who buy their race engines. And
its gonna take up to four weeks to get the pistons I need as there are only
three sets of them left in all of North America. And the bearings and rod bolts
are special order and who knows when they'll come in. But the guy has the
wherewithall to tell me about Diamond Racing in Detroit who makes custom
pistons. So I call there and low and behold I'll have a custom set in no time
and the guy I'm talking to answers all of my questions and puts my mind at
ease. Maxton in October is once again a reality, which is important since I'm
sitting out most of the summer with my car in pieces and reading your reports
from El Mirage and Bonneville and Maxton makes it hard to wait.It is good to be
able to read what everyone on the list is doing with their cars and what
achievements they have accomplished this year-it motivates the rest of us to
keep on trucking, so if you are working on a car as Dr. Mayf has been doing ,
let everyone know what's going on, it makes this list all that much more
interesting.I'm happy again. Scott
