What would happen if a Laser could sweep a 30 degree arc of the combustion chamber igniting 50% of the mixture in 1 crankshaft degree (or less) at 10,000 RPM ? Brian Savage Hmmm. Assuming 8 cylinders, you want to build 50% of the TOTAL cylinder pressure in less than 0.003 of a second, over the span of one crank degree when a normal engine uses 40-50 crank degrees from onset of spark to peak pressure. How do you spell DETONATION !! -Elon |
