John missed #6.  

Landspeed Louise mentioned it in her post a month or so ago ... The FIA
doesn't care about land-speed racing, they have neither the interest or the
in-house expertise to sanction it.  They depend on others to do the dirty
work and then they issue their rubber stamp.

Only one track in Utah?  How many streamliners race anywhere else in the
world at speeds that fast?  Those records really only matter to other
racers, witness the total lack of mention of Tom Burkland's runs in any
media not directly connected with the salt.  As far as the FIA and
land-speed racing is concerned, the Guinness Book of World Records has more
interest, and is more prompt to recognize accomplishments.  It's
understandable that FIA doesn't care because of the $$$ involved.  Formula-1
has lots more bucks, Euros, lira, yen, whatever's to attract their
attention.

A "World Authority" is one that does more of something and knows more about
that "thing" than anyone else.
