John Lingenfelter was a wonderful man with a superb command of engine
technology. We worked together on several emission control investigative
articles in the 80's that demonstrated to the EPA, Department of Energy,
Department of Transportation and a host of state and municipal agencies that
the hot rodder could build 'em and run 'em meaner and cleaner than the
OEM's.
John's contribution paved the way for SEMA and myself to approach two
cabinets members on not only the highly lopsided emissions programs, but
also the insane program planned to jerk lead out of gasoline all at once.
Needless to say these two programs were modified and gave birth to a
phenomenal grassroots collective that is still very active at SEMA today.
He always knew clean was mean and built some mighty fine machines that
proved it.
