Pork Pie & List
The FIM current list of speed records to be challenged etc dates from
1979/1980. This was the date I understand when the FIM chose to average
speeds for two runs and not average the times for two runs and then
calculate the speed.
It appears none of the records up to that time were changed to the new
calculation method so all pre 1979 speeds remain as records not to be
challenged ("frozen"). So the likes of Kreidler and NSU do not appear on
the website list of current records that can be attempted.
The Campos Streamliner for example is in a different category to that of
the 'sit on' class of solo bikes. The solos have an upper engine capacity
limit of 1300cc anyway. Sprint (UK event for ss kilo) and drag bikes (ss
1/4 mile) however can go up to 3500cc capacity in three classes - '2000'
for over 1300 up to 2000, '3000' for over 2000 up to 3000 and '3500' for
over 3000 up to 3500. These are normally 'sit on' configuration but
streamliners are included (hence Easyrider HD in '3000' class).
Any machine powered by a different engine system (rocket, jet, turbine etc)
will be in Category C and rules are framed to accommodate the machines
created.
