Bruce;
I think that Robert Stack was a national champion skeet shooter, too.
Talented guy!

Subject: ROBERT STACK: Wellknown Movie & TV Actor, Early Dry Lakes Racer
Hello Glen .....You probably know this, as well as many others here
on the list, but some folks might not ...... famous movie actor Robert
Stack,
who portrayed Elliott Ness on TV's "Untouchables" series, and the host of
the more recent "Unsolved Mysteries" TV program, was an early-day dry lakes
racer prior to WWII, and he joined the Navy as a gunnery instructor after we
got into the war, having already started his Hollywood career somewhere
around 1939. I recall seeing a full page photo of a very young Bob Stack
sitting in a fenderless deuce roadster, with leather "crash"
helmet and goggles, in an issue of Hot Rod Mag some years back, in one
of HRM's " Pictorial Scrapbook " shots .
I think the photo was circa 1938, and the location was probably Muroc
or El Mirage . This list does a good job of mentioning better known lakes
and Bonneville racers who are no longer with us, and I just thought he
should be mentioned as one of the many young California hotrodders who were
there racing in those earlier days of dry lakes speed trials ...... over a
decade before the first SCTA event on the Salt .
Thanks ....... Bruce on the rainy East Coast
