Very well put, Dan.
Any "new-school", "high-tech", or "no restrictions" kind of landspeed racer
who currently has issues with the vintage and nostalgia racing classes
should gain some understanding and respect by reading (and RE-reading) what
you wrote here.

Subject: Roadsters
Heard through other sources lately there's been a bit of controversy with
some roadsters re configuration, streamlining etc.
One question I've got, is my louvered deck lid illegal on a Gas / Roadster ?

Chris, list,
There are no roadster rules changes in the 2003 rulebook. Your deck lid is
still legal in F/G roadster classes.
The pending roadster committee meeting is to deal with issues concerning
Street Roadsters. There may be some spill over to F/G roadster classes. The
intended goal is not to make any current car illegal but to set standards
that
will be clear to both the builder and the administrator. Roadsters are the
backbone of our style of land speed racing. They compete in a catagory named
Vintage. The name in it's self should bring to mind a style of vehicle which
reflects the heritage of Bonneville. This is not to say that the committee
is
trying to stifle innovation. There are parameters and these should be
followed.
There are many more classes where a person can design and experiment to
express themselves to their heart's content. Each class has restrictions,
that
is why there are so many classes. If the goal were to be the fastest of all
there would be only one record set each year, or maybe not, regardless of
body
style.
I don't have a meeting date as of now, nor do I have an agenda available to
me. Just hang out, I'm sure that any info concerning the outcome of the
meeting will filter to the population when it is known.
