IIRC: Kelly only claimed to have "contributed" to the P-38 design
joining Lockheed in 1933 to work on the Lockheed Electra.
it was'nt until he did the P-80 in WWII & after and then the
F-104 that he really came into his own. that began the era of
the Skunk Works. which later produced the U-2, SR-71 and then F-117
