List
At this time I can understand JB and indeed others wishing to mark the
achievements of those we have lost in some way and indeed a "double 2
chapter" would include them. However to exclude the non wheeldriven may
cause offence to some very brave drivers who have gone 500, 600 and 700.
But it would be up to the club(s) concerned to write the necessary 'rule'
for joining.
The record holders who I feel would be eligible are Donald Campbell (d),
Bob Summers (d), Al Teague, Nolan White (d) & Don Vesco (d). (I need to be
guided by Glen or Wes that Nolan's speeds were indeed SCTA record) plus
Tom Green, Craig Breedlove, Art Arfons, Gary Gabelich (d), Richard Noble,
Rosco McGlashan (Australian Record) and Andy Green.
Perhaps a fitting memorial to Don - and I know it is easy to write from
over here as I would not have much opportunity to work 'hands on' with a
USA project - might be to have an artist craft a suitable trophy to present
to the next holder of the outright 'wheeldriven record' and obtain consent
from the Vesco family to give his name to it.
Having just re-read the two words in quotes, I feel an e mail off list to
Italy might find that 'artist'.......
