In six days time it will be the 75th Anniversary of the first land speed
record set at over 200 mph.
Even after all this time the speed still marks a threshold speed above
which racers aspire to join a number of exclusive drivers clubs.
Briton Henry Segrave drove the "1000HP" Sunbeam on the Ormond Daytona beach
in Florida USA on March 29th. He attained a two way average of 203.792 mph
through the flying mile. The car can be seen in the National Motor Museum,
Beaulieu, Hampshire, England.
Malcolm Pittwood, Derby, England.
ps I hope that the Bonneville 200 mph club executive will honour this great
achievement, even though it was not achieved on salt and was many years
before the club opened.
