Hi Nigel, can't respond to everything you mentioned, but some time back
Chuck Salmen, the builder and driver of the $um Fun '34 Ford AA Gas
Roadster that holds the Bonneville Record around 255 mph, told us he
uses thermocouples in all the headers ("close" to the port I'm sure) and
tunes his mechanical injection by the choice of individual nozzle size
until he sees EGT of 1350/1400 degrees F. in each header.  The nozzles
he uses are available in size increments of .001".  He reports that one
size change makes a big difference in the EGT.  Cheers Ardun Bill
