Hey Mayf.... having tried both the chassis dyno and an engine dyno... they
both have merits...
This is what I like about a chassis dyno that an engine dyno simply can't
give you.... it's a complete syetems check.... is everything working in
harmony..... We simply aren't like folks that get to race every weekend..
and setting up the car and getting it ready to race is often done by one or
two people..... having the opportunity to run the car on a chassis dyno
doesn't really give you anything more then the peace of mind that comes with
knowing everything is working at that time. It's almost like going to a
race...without traveling thousands of miles.
I don't think the chassis dyno is a very good tuning tool in comparison to
an engine dyno as it's a real pain to make changes in comparison.... so if I
was dialing in an engine the engine dyno is usually much better out fitted
with sensors ( the chassis dyno can be but it's not most the time )
The one thing that the chassis dyno can give you is the baseline information
you could use to further your ability to predict what a particular
combination will do on a course, and given enough tests and results of real
races I'm sure you would have extreamly accurate predictions of
performance..... awesome stuff really.
