The recient topic on scoop openings has started me thinking of and
investigating an alternative to scoops and atmospheric air and to date my
precursorary calculations indicate the possibility of using compressed air or
other oxygen mixtures in what we call in Australia "G " sized cylinders these
are the largest commercialy available ( each holds aprox 10m3 ) I use the S.I.
system as im to lazy today to convert to the old pommy imperial system you
blokes still insist on using, at least its feasable for a 2 litre motor.
Ive checked the archives and found nothing on this topic under these topics (
compressed air ,compressed oxygen, compressed gasses ,nitrous oxide,or
alternate induction systems )
The rules dont mention anything about this form of suppling oxygen for
combustion , at least not that is obvious, compressed oxygen is banned from
the cockpit for breathing purposes. Can I use this method and if so in what
class ie gas (petrol ) or fuel and would it be concidered blown ? nitrous
oxide is considered a fuel according to the rules BUT nitrous oxide is not a
fuel but a compressed gas of nitrogen and oxygen ie an oxidiser which allows
more fuel to be burnt , and for the purposes of classification blown means
artificially aspirated by mechnicial or exhaust means , compressed oxygen/ air
is neither a fuel nor artificial ( is this to be taken as above atmospheric
pressure) aspiration by mechnicial means . Hoping you or others can clarify
these uncertainties before I progress any further ? has anyone else on the
list tried or experemented with compressed air
