Aren't we missing the significance of tread width
when we talk wheelbase. Geometrically, if a
given car has a 50" tread width and a 120"
wheelbase, narrowing the tread width 5" should
have the same effect on handling as increasing
the wheelbase 12". I'm sure there are many other
"hidden" factors that need to be considered when
applying that to a racecar, but we have harped on
wheelbase so much for two years now, and nobody
has really said anything about the effects of
tread width. And what about those guys running
40" or 50" in back and real narrow front axles
(or even the opposite, wide front axles and
narrow rear)????
How about some practical input regarding this
part of the formula too. I've got two fifty inch
wide axles, (front and rear) and a bunch of
steel. I was originally going to go for 92",
then decided on 112", now I'm thinking 120".
If I get any longer than that, I'm going to have
to get a onger trailer.
I'm going to be out of circulation for a couple
of days, but I sure hope I see some more on this
when I get home.
