G'day list
Im a new member to this list,my name is Gary Baker ,Im 44yo and from
Australia, a member of the Dry Lake Racers, Im new to this type of racing
though it has always been an ambition to try LSR .I've been into motorcycles
and motorcycle racing for yonks (road racing and sidecar racing) .Presently Im
building a sidecar streamliner and I would like to participate in your
dicussions and learn from you all.
I have two questions hopefully some one can answer
1. tyres I have fitted 3 from my racing sidecar to the LSR vehicle , the front
and sidecar are 20x6x13 and the rear drive wheel is 20x9x13 all are road
racing slicks (hoosier )the car blokes from the club say these are to wide and
I should be using narrow type wheels and tyres of large diameter what is the
advantage of the of the latter over the former ?
2. From my rudimentary invistigations into aerodynamics it appears that the
streamlining of the rear of the LSR vehicle is more important than the front
for laminar flow to reduce the eddies that cause parasitic drag and the rear
should be tapered to 6 deg , does anyone know over what distance this tapering
should be from the rear wheel to the finish of the vehicle? is there a formula
for this measurement?
