Welding thin- wall tubing with a stick welder is very difficult. For stuff
over 0.090" wall, it's OK if you are welding 1010/1020 mild steel but don't
use a stick welder on 4130N chrome moly. The localized heating in the weld
has a tendency to cause cracking.

   Keith, Glad somebody else knows what stick welding is. My Lyndwood front 
motor rail was build in 1959, all stick welded by Bob Bilbow. These welds 
still look great today. Bob raking the leaves in connecticut
