The horizontal crankshaft of a motorcycle does have some beneficial
gyroscopic stabilizing effect on the machine, and more so if the engine
is one or two cylinders with relatively heavy flywheels. The wheels of
the bike are also gyroscopes. But a subtlety of the deal is that we
don't want the wheels to be too heavy, if there is too much gyroscopic
effect it interferes with quick handling of the machine as the wheels
resist turning and banking movements. Cheers Bill
