Watched most cars at speed have rooster tails. My thoughts are two: 1) that
salt inherently sticks to the tires and is flung off and the faster you go
the more is thrown up farther, 2) tires flex a lot, especially when they are
overloaded and this also picks up salt and throws it into the air. The under
body low pressures and the pressure at the aft end of the car expands the
rooster tail further.

The thoughts about tires and overloading is a bit scary. A lot of us
run/plan to run ET Fronts and some kinda NASCAR tire in the back. I suspect
the ET fronts are a small load range but when put on a heavy car exceed that
load range. Ditto for ET Fronts used on the rear. They are not made to be
driven but are supposed to be just rollers. So we add another problem to the
tires, overloading, now driving them to boot. I thinkw we are lucky that so
few tire failures and wrecks happen.
