Got several letters from folks who enjoyed hearing about the motors so I
thought I would continue the tirade with the six speed woes.
All we did was fry a 5/6 shifting fork and it's associated synchro ring...
I'm not sure exactly why this failed.... but I suspect that it was over
shifted.... not by hand but by the actual adjustment in the linkage....
looking at the fork it's actually bent a bit in the direction of 5th
gear.... and obviously it's been Real hot....( okay it's black ) and there
is a witness mark of where I unlocked it .... in other words it had spot
welded itself lightly to the ring on the synchro....
This is one of the parts I had replaced when I rebuilt the trans earlier in
the year.... so there is a chance it was for a later model trans then
mine.... hmmm .... Don't know exactly but plan on talking to Richmond
today... The tech guy and I have spoken often about this thing so he should
be able to shed a bit of light on what happened....
