Well, i left wendover at about 2:30pm .0n friday after i made the
137.+pass.broke down the pitts,checked out of the motel and went by the
car wash to remove residual salt from the trailers,etc..ol robert and i
determined that as an experiment,we would drive starght thru from Utah
to atlanta and see how hard it was.......................(i know you've
been waiting on the dotts)33 1/2 hours. it really wasn't that bad to do.
would have been better with a v-8 but we had a v-6 in the truck and most
of colorado was at 30mph(the up hill part).we plan on making the oct.
meet at the world finals.we can do it.not that bad at all.but last nite
i got a really bad case of wendover lagg(kinda like jet lagg i guess).we
got home at sunday am just after midnite.just goes to show....ya gotta
pay the pipper!   miss judi got the photos back(about 30 rolls of film)
and the floppys will be done in another day or two. so does anybody mind
if i post a few shots. she got some killer shots, sunrises n stuff!
TECH CONTENT: for you guys with early FE's. a famous sporster guy to be
un-named suggested that i throw away my motors ...get 77 and later so i
could put windage plates in it.windage plates are definately a good move
if your doing/building a bottom end but they won't fit in 76 and earlier
fe's. i can't throw away my motors as i race what i got!when i get
something else.i'll race it!but anyway,what i did was.............weld
up the scrapper plate(castings are blunt and not very effective from the
factory)with a tigg and then machine it down to a fine edge like a knife
at the same clearance as a scraper plate.i took as an experiment i
drained the bottom end after a few runs and no extra oil build up
there.plus i bypassed the top end drain to flow into the oil pump as
opposed to the flywheel area.more to come . ol'dad#566
